We use CanadaHelps to collect our donations, and have a number of neat ways you can contribute, ranging from one-time donations of any amount, to monthly contributions, to tribute and legacy gifts, to our Sponsor A Bird program. Grab a PROWLS t-shirt, and show your support!

Sponsor a bird

From baby hummingbirds to adult trumpeter swans, wild birds are expensive to feed. Is there a species of local bird closest to you heart? Considering sponsoring a bird, and help save a life!

Abundance between generations

Share abundance with future generations of Powell River wildlife and humans by making a memorial gift, a tax-saving bequest to PROWLS in your will, or by making us the beneficiary of your insurance policy.

Non-cash and wishlist donations

If you have any used pet supplies such as animal dishes, carriers and cages of all sizes, old towels, spare Canadian Tire money… It is all a help! Have a look at our wishlist, and see if we can’t help you with your spring cleaning.

Give a totally local, totally wild gift

A donation to PROWLS for a birthday, wedding or graduation gift is a great way to mark a special occasion. We also offer stylin’ t-shirts so you can show off your support for PROWLS everywhere you go!

Five great reasons to support us today!

1

We provide multi-disciplinary medical and scientific expertise to our remote, water-access community. A member of the Wildlife Rehabilitator’s Network of BC, PROWLS works hand-in-hand with researchers, veterinarians, scientists and conservation services to provide specialized local care of many diverse species. We need your help to continue providing this very specialized service to our community.

2

We keep our injured and orphaned wildlife in Powell River. PROWLS has the skills and the people to keep many more animals here, where they can be released locally to support the overall health and diversity of our local animal populations. We need your help to expand the capacity of our facility.

3

We provide volunteer opportunities and employment for young people interested in gaining experience in the innovative fields of wildlife biology and coastal ecology. With your support, we will be able to foster many more opportunities in partnership with the Federal Youth Employment Grant.

4

We engage our community with stories and resources, connecting people with practical ways to preserve and protect our local wild species. With your support, we can offer community workshops and presentations to local schools, our library, and other community organizations and businesses.

5

Timing is everything! We are in the midst of an important phase of growth. You contribution will help us expand our facility and our volunteer-base and offer services and resources for our community that are on par with other wildlife rehabilitators in BC.

Give a local children’s book

PROWLS volunteer Lesley Thorsell generously donates some of the proceeds from her awesome and colourful children’s book, Faerie Takes a Tumble, to PROWLS.

In the words of the author, “This book is about an Irish faerie that wants to help save her faerie kingdom from destruction, and ends up getting help from her winged and feathered friends. It’s a story about healing our world and healing ourselves.”

To purchase a copy of Faerie Takes a Tumble, you can e-Transfer $22 CAD to lthorsell@yahoo.com. Be sure to include your mailing address in the e-transfer message, so you can receive your copy promptly!

Sponsor a bird

We know you love to learn all about each one of our avian patients and their stories! Is there a specific one that catches your heart? Maybe you recently helped rescue an animal in our care and you want to help fund its rehabilitation?

Rehabilitating Powell River’s wild animals is very expensive work! Here are some examples of our common costs:

15 lbs bag of soft bill pellets are $145
Soft bill pellets are a staple for many of the birds who stay at PROWLS

Cat kibble necessary for baby bird diet: 10lbs at $72
This is a very specific cat food that has to be specially ordered just for the formula for baby birds.

Necessary medical supplies such as Duoderm: $90 for a pack of 8

Choose and sponsor your patient

Even our smallest avian patients can cost $40 or more for a week of rehabilitative care! The minimum donation for a sponsorship begins at 40$ for basic costs, and we gratefully welcome any donations above that amount.

First, choose a favourite patient or local species to sponsor

If you don’t already have a specific patient in mind, browse our Rescue-of-the-Week articles and our Facebook page to find your avian match!
