An abundance of varied thrushes at PROWLS this spring

Varied thrush

PROWLS has had an abundance (at least nine) of VARIED THRUSH this Spring because of cat attacks and window strikes. Sadly four have died due to either the severity of their injuries or their particularly great vulnerability to stress.

Varied thrushes are shy and high strung but confident birds. Happily, five have recovered and been released.

Most unusually, one has remained close by, often returning to the flight cage where he hung out with the long term recovering Steller’s Jay. In times of bad weather or just to get some easy rations they both return to this large cage when seeking sanctuary.
